To give credit where credit is due, it's certainly no easy task to challenge the Jeep Wrangler for the title of off-road champion. However, the Ford Bronco is ready for the challenge. For fairness, we've taken a closer look at the specs of the equivalent four-door hardtop variants of both models. Right from the very start, the Bronco has numerous performance advantages over the Wrangler.
The standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost® 4-cylinder found on the Bronco produces an additional 55 lb-ft of torque compared to the standard 3.6-liter V6 of the Wrangler. Ford also includes a standard class-exclusive 7-speed manual transmission featuring a crawler gear for tricky low-speed off-road maneuvers. The Bronco also tops the Wrangler across all three EPA-measured categories of fuel economy, helping you go the extra mile.
Still craving more muscle? The Bronco has an available 2.7L EcoBoost® V6 paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, both of which are more sophisticated than the optional powertrain offered on the Wrangler. This impressive combination means that you'll have 40 more horsepower and an additional 105 lb-ft of torque compared to the optional 2.0L Turbo I4 of the Wrangler.
A slightly shorter wheelbase combined with a slightly longer overall length adds up to quite a bit more cargo space in the back. That means you can take more gear with you off-road, definitely a major plus. Off-road is where the Ford Bronco truly excels. When properly equipped, the Bronco offers a higher crawl ratio within its transmission, higher ground clearance, superior water fording abilities, and a shorter wheelbase for easy maneuverability over challenging terrain.
Winner - Ford Bronco
