Do Ford Vehicles Hold Their Value?

Do Ford Vehicles Hold Their Value? - Germain Ford of Beavercreek

A vehicle is a major purchase, one of the biggest most people make. And so, while it’s expected that every vehicle will depreciate some, the amount can really vary by quite a lot. Ford resale value is one of the brand’s strengths, but not everyone knows how Ford’s vehicles hold their value, so Germain Ford of Beavercreek has put together some examples of noteworthy appraisals by third-party researchers that should illustrate this idea.

Kelley Blue Book 2023 Best Buy Awards

Ford Resale Value - Kelley Blue Book

Kelley Blue Book is the leading authority in resale value, the last word in used car resale values for decades. Every year, they compile a list for the Best Buy awards, one vehicle from each mainstream vehicle category that KBB recommends above the rest. Resale value isn’t the only factor that is considered, but this is KBB, so it is weighted greater than the other categories. For 2023, Ford models took home four of these awards1, more than any other single brand. The vehicles that got the awards are as follows:

  • 2023 Ford Expedition
  • 2023 Ford Maverick
  • 2023 Ford F-150
  • 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning
Ford F-250 Super Duty

Ford Trucks

Ford sells a lot of trucks every year, more than any other brand. The F-150 in particular is the best-selling vehicle in America. In a lot of cases, it’s scarcity that keeps prices up on used vehicles, but that’s not the case with Ford trucks. Even with so many out there, Ford trucks are some of the best vehicles on the market for holding their value2. Super Duty models in particular are worth mentioning, especially when compared to the competition. The F-250 Super Duty, for example, will retain an average of 87% of its value over a 5-year period. The F-30 Super Duty is just behind with 86.95%, and the F-150 comes in at 86.75%. All of these numbers are excellent, but it’s worth looking at other trucks for comparison. The Ram 1500, direct competitor to the F-150 sits at 75.6%, and the GMC Sierra 2500HD only returns 71.3%. These differences amount to thousands of dollars, and it’s definitely something we suggest considering a truck.

Ford Reliability - iSeeCars

Ford Mustang

Ford Mustang

Sports cars tend not to do so well when it comes to resale value, to the point where KBB doesn’t even bother to have a category for them in the Best Buy awards. However, iSeeCars does have a reliability ranking for sports cars3. Reliability is the biggest single factor to consider in determining resale value, with all the vehicles that won KBB Best Buy awards ranking first in their category here too, so this ranking is still incredibly helpful. The Mustang is ranked #1 on this list, and since the Mustang Convertible is treated as a separate model, it sits at #2 as well. So, as with trucks, Ford again proves the exception to the rule, and holds onto residual value much better than the rest of the automotive market would lead to believe.
