Ford vs. Chevrolet Comparison - Should You Choose Ford or Chevy?
There is no denying that the Ford VS Chevrolet rivalry is one of the biggest of all time. The market changes, technology advances, and new brands emerge, but the rivalry continues. For some, the rivalry will ended when the Camaro ended production but the Mustang didn’t, but for everyone else, we made a guide to show how the two brands compare. We think you’ll find it informative.
Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Awards
Kelley Blue Book is a byword in the automotive market, the recognized expert in resale value. Every year, they give awards to the vehicles that are deemed to be a “best buy”. There is a wide range of criteria used to determine this, but this being Kelley Blue Book, financial considerations like historic reliability and projected resale value are higher priorities. Four Ford models won this award in 2024, more than any other single brand. Chevrolet did not win a single one of these awards. These are the Ford models that won:
- 2024 Ford Expedition
- 2024 Ford Maverick
- 2024 Ford F-150
- 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning
Car & Driver 10Best
Car & Driver has been putting out their picks for the 10 best vehicles being sold in a given year since 1983. The 10Best awards are a good metric for a brand, since enough of them are given out every year that overall trends can be spotted, but not so many that the award becomes meaningless. Ford is one of the winningest brands ever for these awards, with a total of 44 wins. Chevrolet is also in the top 5, with 37 wins. Ford is out ahead, but this might seem like a close contest at first. However, 25 of Chevrolet’s wins are for the Corvette, a vehicle that exists in a market niche where Ford doesn’t compete. That means there are just 12 wins to spread over the rest of the Chevrolet lineup. Even if you remove the 11 wins for the Mustang from Ford’s total, since the Camaro has been discontinued, that’s still 33 awards to 12, a hefty lead for Ford. These awards paint a clear picture of Ford as a well-rounded brand, while Chevrolet comes across as one with really just one good model.

Finally, we’re taking a look at a head-to-head model comparison. Both vehicles here are built to be technological powerhouses, the latest and greatest in mainstream automotive technology. Both are performance-oriented electric SUVs and are very similar in size, and we’ve chosen the performance trims of each. You might think that this is a close contest, after noticing the nearly identical pricing and range, but just a quick glance at the power figures shows that the Mustang Mach-E is in an entirely different league. Significantly more power, a bigger battery, and better brakes on the Mustang can really make you wonder why the pricing is so similar.
More practical considerations on these two vehicles won’t clear up any confusion about the price either. The Mach-E has better cargo space, and a noticeably superior stereo. And speaking of stereos, Chevrolet uses an infotainment system powered by Google built-in software. There’s nothing wrong with this per se, it’s an intuitive and well-made system, but Chevrolet has taken the approach of locking out third-party software, i.e. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. That means you need to buy a data subscription for your vehicle, independent of what you already have for your phone, just to be able to listen to streaming music natively. Ford gives you the option to use the excellent SYNC® 4A system, or if you prefer, wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Customers tend to prefer the option, and you can only get it with the Ford. Both vehicles are also made to be capable of using hands-free cruise control on compatible roads. For Ford this means BlueCruise, and for Chevrolet, it’s Super Cruise. They work in a similar fashion, but they sure don’t cost the same. With the Mustang Mach-E GT, the equipment and a 3-year subscription are included in the price. But for the Blazer EV RS, the equipment and three years of service adds more than $4,000 to the price of the vehicle. Similarly, a windshield wiper de-icer is included as standard equipment on the Mustang Mach-E, but is available only as part of an optional package that costs more than $1,500 on the Blazer EV. For all that Chevrolet touts its new Ultium EV architecture, the actual vehicles it makes from them are a really poor value for money.
