Ford Super Duty

About the Ford Super Duty

You can tell even from just the name that the Ford Super Duty is serious business. That might sound like a gimmick, given that the competition have all called their big trucks “heavy duty” but the Super Duty earned its name by being the most advanced and most powerful truck in its segment**. The available 7.3-liter engine is the biggest and most powerful gasoline engine in the segment, and the 1,200 lb-ft of torque produced by the available Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel is the most of any diesel in the segment. The result is best-in-class towing, and all of this contributes to the Super Duty name. Tons of high-tech features make towing, loading heavy payloads, or even just using your truck as an office at the worksite much easier.

What the Critics Say

"Depending on how it's equipped, the Super Duty is capable of hauling up to 8,000 pounds of payload or towing up to 40,000 pounds worth of trailer. Supplementing these efforts are gobs of new tech that make driving and towing safer and more convenient, including a blind-spot-monitoring system for fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailering." -- Roadshow by Car & Driver

"It seems like only yesterday that 1000 lb-ft of torque was an achievement equal to the four-minute mile. Now here comes Ford with 1,200 lb-ft of twist. OMG!" -- Autoweek

What’s New for 2024

The current generation of the Super Duty was only just introduced last year, so changes for this year have been mild. You can now order bed scales for XL and XLT trims, something previously only available on higher trims, and navigation is now standard on the XLT and higher trims. Apart from that, the only change is to the standard 6.8-liter engine, which now has flex-fuel capability.

Ford Super Duty Features

Ford Super Duty Towing

Raising The Bar For Capability

There’s a lot to love about the Super Duty, but the main reason why you buy one instead of another truck is the unbeatable capability. There are three different engines offered, two gasoline and one diesel. The standard engine is a 6.8-liter gasoline V8 that puts out 405 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. The other gasoline engine is the 7.3-liter V8, the largest gasoline engine in the class. And with 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque, it’s also the most powerful. But it’s not the most powerful engine available for the Super Duty. For that, there is the 6.7-liter Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8 and its 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque.

That’s not just the most torque available for the Super Duty, it’s the most available in the class. And the result is the available best-in-class towing capacity of 40,000 pounds.

Sometimes whatever you need to do with your Super Duty will involve some mud and other offroad conditions to navigate. For that, Ford offers the Tremor® Off-Road Package, which comes with 18-inch wheels with 35-inch Goodyear DuraTrac all-terrain tires, as well as upgraded suspension, skidplates, heavy-duty running boards, and a crawl mode. Once you get where you’re going, and whatever the terrain, the available Live-Drive Power Takeoff (PTO) and Pro Power Onboard can help you get whatever you need done.

Ford Super Duty Interior

Versatile Interior

There’s no point in building the best-towing truck on the market if the interior makes towing a miserable chore. That’s why Ford made the Super Duty interior both highly functional and highly comfortable. Spacious and comfortable seats with available heating and ventilation make long towing trips enjoyable. And in the event that you have to sleep in the truck, the available Max Recline seats fold nearly flat, to give you the most comfortable sleeping surface possible. And that’s not the only use for the interior. It’s also built to be usable as an office, featuring a 5G-powered Wi-Fi hotspot that can connect up to 10 devices. You have a choice of an 8-inch or a 12-inch infotainment screen, and whichever one you choose comes with Ford’s latest software, the SYNC® 4 operating system. This includes things like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and navigation comes included as well for most trims. Lastly, to help make those hours spent in the truck more enjoyable, there is an available 18-speaker B&O® Sound System by Bang & Olufsen® with HD Radio™.

Ford Super Duty Trailer Camera

Advanced Technology

It’s one thing to build a truck that’s technically capable of something, and something else altogether to build one that makes that same task easy. The advanced tech in the Super Duty makes previously tricky tasks easy, including several cameras for negotiating tight spaces, even while towing a trailer. This includes a segment-first “tailgate down” backup camera, so you can see where you’re reversing even when the tailgate isn’t in the up position. Backup cameras in competing trucks will just be pointed at the ground in this situation. Available in-bed scales let you avoid overloading, or even just unevenly loading, whatever payload you need to carry. And not only that, but the available Ford Pro Upfit Integration System allows you to incorporate third-party equipment seamlessly with the equipment installed by Ford. This includes the ability to control some features right from the infotainment screen, eliminating the need to install additional controls.
